Garlic Godfather's Italian - Artichoke type

A fascinating Italian garlic variety known for its beautiful purple striping, large cloves, and unusual variation from bulb to bulb! Godfather's Italian produces distinctive bulbs that can vary considerably in their clove arrangement, making it an especially interesting variety for garlic enthusiasts.

Some bulbs may contain a single layer with as few as five large cloves, while others develop multiple layers with a greater number of cloves. The bulbs often display attractive purple striping and the plants can sometimes produce a scape.

Godfather's Italian was once thought to be a Marbled Purple Stripe garlic because of its coloration, relatively low clove count, and tendency to produce a scape. However, its broad leaves and sometimes layered clove structure have led Filaree Garlic Farm to classify it as an artichoke-type garlic.

Planting & Storage

For best results, plant garlic in the fall when your area is approximately 4–6 weeks away from a hard freeze.

Please inspect your garlic bulbs when they arrive and contact us immediately if you have any concerns. If you aren't ready to plant them right away, store the bulbs in a dry location with good air circulation. Improper storage can encourage disease or deterioration.
