A specially selected Italian arugula with consistent flavor, color, and growth! Ortolani is a Franchi Special Selection of cultivated arugula developed for uniform performance and offered in a generous packet that's especially well suited for market growers, larger gardens, and anyone who loves a steady supply of fresh arugula.
This fast-growing variety can be ready to harvest approximately 30–40 days after direct sowing. The flavor tends to be mild in cooler weather and becomes increasingly peppery as temperatures rise. For the best combination of tenderness and flavor, harvest young leaves when plants are approximately 4–6 inches tall.
Known as rucola in Italy, arugula is a staple of Italian cuisine. Enjoy it fresh in salads and sandwiches, wilt it over hot pizza or pasta just before serving, or use it to make a flavorful arugula pesto.
Direct sow seeds approximately 1 inch apart. For a continuous supply of fresh greens, make succession plantings every 2–3 weeks throughout the growing season. Arugula also tolerates cool temperatures particularly well, making it an excellent choice for extending the fresh-greens season.
